The Chancellor’s office implemented new Title 5 regulations that Districts must comply with regarding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility. However, there are currently two lawsuits seeking to enjoin/overturn these regulations. This roundtable will provide an overview of the lawsuits, offer some creative solutions to walk the line between compliance and avoiding lawsuits, and a roundtable discussion to workshop further solutions.

With a $68 billion deficit looming, how will lawmakers carry out the legislative priorities of 2023 in the budget reality of 2024? Join Keenan’s Amy Donovan and Andrew Martinez of the Community College League in a discussion of upcoming changes and challenges. We will discuss new laws going into effect in 2024, how new California legislative leaders may address what the LAO has termed an “unprecedented prior-year revenue shortfall,” and potential state and federal law changes that will impact community colleges.

An Ounce of Prevention: Strategies to Minimize the Risks of Costly Employment Claims

You cannot always avoid employment lawsuits, but what you do – or don’t do – before you get there can dramatically affect the outcome. This session will discuss strategies for dealing with difficult employees and difficult employment issues, and highlight the potential litigation issues to keep in mind when making employment decisions. An ounce of prevention in the workplace is worth a pound of cure in the courtroom.
